Automatic identification and data capture (AIDC), also known as auto-ID and automatic data capture refers to the process of acquiring data by means of electronically analyzing images, videos or sounds. The data is captured then converted to a digital representation. Several different types of technology are used to accomplish AIDC, including:
- bar coding
- radio frequency identification (RFID)
- magnetic stripes
- biometrics
- optical character recognition (OCR)
- voice recognition
- smart cards

RFID Solutions
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is one of the newer AIDC technologies. Developed during the 1980s, RFID can be used as a base for AIDC. It is a useful tool because of its ability to facilitate identification of objects, and to track moving objects. It has therefore proved useful in a wide range of industries. This type of automated wireless AIDC system is very effective in factory environments where barcode labels cannot be used or would not survive.
